Roofing Every Type of Philadelphia Home
Philadelphia's housing stock is unlike any other major U.S. city, and a roofing contractor who only knows asphalt shingles on suburban colonials will be in over their head here within a week. We've worked on every Philadelphia roof type:
Flat rowhouse roofs — the dominant style across Fishtown, Kensington, Port Richmond, South Philadelphia, and most of North Philly. Typically covered in EPDM rubber, modified bitumen, or older built-up tar systems. Parapet walls, scupper drains, and shared party walls require precise flashing. Pitched twin and triplex roofs — common in Mount Airy, Germantown, West Philadelphia, and Mayfair. Asphalt or architectural shingle, with shared roof planes and complex valley details where one home meets the next. Slate and Spanish-tile roofs — Chestnut Hill, sections of Mount Airy, and older Center City and Society Hill homes. Original slate from the early 1900s often outlasts modern materials but needs careful matching when individual pieces fail. Trinity roofs — the iconic three-story Center City and Old City homes have small near-flat roofs squeezed between neighbors, often with original built-up tar that's well past its lifespan. Modern condo and roof-deck systems — new construction throughout Northern Liberties, Fishtown, and the Navy Yard increasingly features reinforced membrane systems beneath roof decks, green roofs, and complex drainage. We handle all of these in-house with a 30-person crew — no subcontracting out the unfamiliar work to whoever's available.
